The Light

The Light

A Poem by Alexis

The light went out in the hallway once again. It started with a flicker...

On-off-on off...the light didn't have the strength to bring Itself back to life. The energy that once circled inside that little fragile glass ball finally ran out. When it was new it had so much energy that it fought to get out of its cage. Often burning harder than it needed to. It was once a bright durable thing, it could run for hours, even days at a time. But as it got older it started to dim. Until one day, whatever little energy it had left finally just.... gave out. One last flicker of hope and the whole house went dark.

Once the house sinks into darkness everyone panics. "BROKEN THINGS MUST BE FIXED!" And when you fix broken things, you often try too hard to replace what was once there. No...that 100 watt bulb will not replace the fragile 40 watt bulb... Too much life for one tiny thing. You do not have to fix broken things...you let the broken thing fix itself. Or if you must, just give light switch a flick and hope for the best, but do not wear yourself out as it did to itself. Because tomorrow, there will be a flicker of hope that shines in that house and that's all it need in order to keep itself alive
