Mockingbird

Mockingbird

A Poem by Riley

A song sang before
Days. Months. Years even;

This is about a girl named Mockingbird.

Mockingbird loved truly,
deeply, passionately for all.

Especially those close to her
when she would fall.

Those who would jump
tried to save her

Say you are hurt
she understands,
She knows.

One day her wing got broken
beaten and fractured from words,
so fragile she could no longer fly.

Mockingbird decided to try and fly,
leaping off the highest floor

She apologized when she jumped from the ledge,
stating she was sore.

You tell Mockingbird to push more
Be happier, fly for us,
Mockingbird.

You tell Mockingbird to listen
Push your ear to my floor, listen for us,
Mockingbird.

Mockingbird stopped singing her song.
As if she disappeared.

You find her on the ledge,
Wing torn, clipped, damaged beyond repair.

Try and fly, Mockingbird

She falls lightly,
almost weightless

Your wings are strong,
Built from steel

You push Mockingbird to deal with steel

Mockingbird was paper.

Say you know.

She’ll understand.

Unlike you.
