The Summer Bird

The Summer Bird

A Poem by Walani Ndhlovu

The summer has come

The roses are awaken in the flower farm

The sun is shining in the naked sky

The birds finalize their winter cry

‘The summer is back

The summer is back’

They sing

Happily they fly and praise their king.

They immigrate to their country and fly for miles

Upon looking at them the summer smiles

‘Come with me

Come with me’

He calls happily

For here shall he be nice and friendly.

The worms are ready to make a meal

For birds which fly and seek to steal

‘Let me live

Let me live’

They slowly creep

Trying to dig to go down deep.

When the summer is on

The winter is gone

They birds have flown

To where they belong.
