Zombies'n'S**t Ep. 54A Chapter by wagonburnerThe Things We Do For Family
We followed after Sophia for a while, ducking into buildings to stay out of the rain as much as possible. I didn't take long before Sophia stopped and waited for us to catch up. "Well. I have no idea where I'm going, and I am cold and wet. Let's stop here for a bit and continue in a few hours. Hopefully this rain will let up." I glanced at Carl, all of us were dripping wet, but as usual, Carl and I didn't feel the cold. Sophia and I immediately set about gathering things to start a fire with. Carl watched us with mild interest, but made no effort to help.
Once we managed to get a fire going, Sophia settled on one side, and I on the other. Carl finally heaved himself up and joined us. We bickered for a few hours until Sophia started yawning. She scavenged armfuls of clothing and cloth to make a makeshift bed. Carl grew uneasy, "Hey, not to burst your bubble, lady, but what are you going to do if we attack you while you are sleeping? I mean, if that is even what happens." Sophia poked her head from underneath her makeshift blankets and yawned, "Well, I'm tired. If you two do bite me and turn me, You can apologize when I become like you." I finally voiced something that had been on my mind for a while, "Look, Sophia, you should know by now that being turned into one of us is not ideal. In addition, we don't tend to like engaging your kind. I, for one, would rather get the hell out of Dodge than deal with Normies." Carl nodded in enthusiastic agreement. Sophia sat upright and looked at us, especially me. I started fidgeting, uncomfortable and Sophia spoke, "Look, guys, I understand what you have told me. But as far as I can tell, living with you guys wouldn't be so bad. It's definitely better than living with desperate fear every day." Carl shrugged and returned to staring into the flames. I stood and made my way to Sophias' side. I crouched down and looked at her. She was looking up at me with alert eyes. I whispered so Carl couldn't hear me, "I have a question that may strike a nerve." Sophia stared up at me and lifted her head over her covers and asked with a crooked smile, "Are you asking for permission? When has not having permission ever stopped you before?" I considered that for only a few seconds before responding, "I kinda like you, so I'll give you a little respect." Sophia scoffed and gestured in Carls' direction. I chuckled and responded, "Yeah, but I don't respect him." She chuckled with me and gestured for me to go on, then snuggled further under the covers. I took a deep breath, "Do you think becoming one of us could help you get over your fear of water?" Sophia stared at me and seemed to struggle between laughing and snapping at me. "She finally settled on an answer, "No. At least, that isn't my primary thought. I'm much more interested in finding my brother." © 2016 wagonburner |
