Zombies'n'S**t Ep. 45A Chapter by wagonburnerI Love the Smell of Rot in the Morning
Sophia hustled around for less than ten minutes, gathering supplies and anything that might be useful. To be honest, that wasn't much. When she was finished, she tossed an improvised bag over her shoulder and stood at the doorway out. I heaved myself to my feet and joined her.
"Before we go," I started, "You have to understand, I can't guarantee your safety." She nodded soberly and mimed punching my nose, "I can defend myself, John. Chances are, I'll have to defend you." I grumbled something under my breath and led the way out into the stairway. I stopped abruptly and said, "Two things, you take the lead because you know how we got in here. Two: where are we going?" She stepped past me and started down the stairs, calling back up to me, "You're going to take me back where you come from." I frowned and called back, "What about the danger to my people?" She said something in response, but it echoed and I missed everything. Grumbling, I went after her. When I caught up with her, I repeated my question. Never stopping, she responded, "They'll be fine. I think they'll just forget like you did earlier." Apparently she had dragged my unconscious a*s us several flights, because we still hadn't reached the bottom. I finally spoke up, "And that doesn't concern you at all? Being surrounded by us and not having any guarantee you'll be allowed to live; or even if you are, potentially being killed by mistake when someone forgets who you are?" She stopped so suddenly, I nearly plowed into her, she turned to fully face me, "It does, but I think between the two of us, I'll be safe enough." She winked at me, "Just look at how well you did." She looked rather smug as she spun back around and skipped down the final few flights. She had a point there. I followed her until we got outside. I inhaled deeply through my nostrils and sighed, "Ahhh. Morning. Smells like.....what does morning smell like, Sophia?" She looked at me and I saw pity flash through them before a glint of mischief took hold of her. "Smells like heaven. Especially after being cooped up with you all night. I was afraid I would never get your stench cleared out of my nose." "Haw haw haw." I said, devoid of humor. © 2016 wagonburnerReviews
