Dear Lupita

Dear Lupita

A Poem by Kat
"

Memories of a childhood friend who left way too soon.

"
Dear Lupita,
you were always the quickest one to smile
and
your eyes held a mischievous twinkle
and
you always liked causing trouble
and
that trouble was so fun
and
your sisters were such tattles
and
I remember those sunny days
and
walking home from school
and
riding on the floor of your mom’s minivan
and
greasy McDonald’s breakfast
and
we were already late to school
and
you never cared for popularity
and
I always admired that about you
and
you left and went north
and
married oh so young
and
I heard about you years later
and
found you’d gone away
and
that away is so permanent
and
that away so premature
and
I can’t help thinking about you
and
dearest Lupita, I really miss you.
