Sold my Soul

I sold my soul to sing.

To sing like the ocean, beating down like the rain, thump swwsshh thump swwssshh

I sold my soul to sing in that old rock band

Tattered cowboy hat clinging to my hand

Guitar strapped to my back

Strings thrumming and humming and wailing and sailing

Away with my voice

Carried with the deep gusts

Up, up in the air

Maybe the angels will hear

Because I sold my soul to sing

To be perfect and whole

And worthy…

.

.

.

Because I sold my soul to sing

Shook his hand, sealed, delivered the deal

The devil grinned, that beautiful face

So perfect and whole

So broken

So out of place

Do you think the angels will care?

I sold my soul to sing

When I pass

Please go ahead and cast

My vocal chords in gold

With diamond accents

Then toss ‘em in the ocean

I sold my soul to sing

And the angels don’t give a s**t.
