HatchlingsA Poem by RaniWritten- 9/22/09Never have I been more perfectly matched Than I was with you on the day we hatched. We’d sit in our nest while ignoring the days. Booth our eyes locked on each other’s gaze. One by one, all of our friends learned to fly, We’d wave our wings as they said goodbye. Until no one was left other than you and me. But I didn’t mind, I was happy as could be. I was ready to venture and see all the world From another perspective, with wings uncurled. You were content staying there in the nest, Away from the dangers, you felt was best. So I stayed with you and soon became sad. This was nothing like the dream of us I had. Then finally, one day, with tears in my eyes, I looked solemnly at you and said my goodbyes. I flew away quickly and never looked back For I knew if I did, my heart would crack. Never have I been more perfectly matched Than I was with you on the day we hatched. I want you to know, while we’re so far apart, That you will always hold the key to my heart. If you gather the courage to take to your wing, Come back to me, and together we’ll sing: Never have I been more perfectly matched Than I was with you on the day we hatched. © 2012 Rani |
