A Party I'll Never Forget

This was an old vocabulary story from 6th grade

"

“And… Done!” My dress was on, my makeup was set. It was time to go to the Halloween party. I walked downstairs and said goodbye to my parents. Just as I was about to exit, I was told, “Please don’t instigate any trouble. Don’t grapple with anyone at the party. Comply with the requests of the hosts. Don’t be skittish, but don’t be too audacious either...” It seemed like my mother went on about how I should act for hours. I was eighteen years old! I knew how to act towards other people! After the lecture, I hopped into my car and drove to the old abandoned mansion.

Once I arrived, I entered the house. To my left, I noticed that one of the hosts had placed a table with programs on it. “Wow,” I thought to myself “there was an exact amount of time allotted for each activity.” When I entered the main part of the building, I noticed that not one wall was devoid of decorations. I observed that one of my best friends was near the spiral staircase. I strolled towards her, and asked if she would like to eat. She stated, “I am a bit hungry.” Once in the kitchen, we each picked up a purple plate. To our right, there was a buffet with a myriad of choices. I amassed a fair amount of food and snacks on my dish, then parked myself next to her. We chatted about the night’s activities, and discussed an unusual topic, ghosts. An odd topic, but I didn’t question it.

The first activity was an icebreaker. We learned the names of everyone at the party and participated in a few trust exercises. The attendees who performed the best were put into a separate group. The elite group of people then competed in a series of “zany-brainy” activities. One of the party hosts stepped onto the stairs and told us that we should do more of the “brain activities.” In her perspective, they promote longevity.

Throughout the party I was perturbed by a feeling of being watched. I figured it was not relevant to anything at the party and shrugged it off, continuing to have fun with my friends. That was until the unexpected happened… (Cue Beethoven’s 5th Symphony)

The lights began to flicker, the crowd grew silent, and footsteps were heard. After about five minutes, an ear-splitting scream rang throughout the old building. Soon after, another followed. A guest was grabbed and tethered to a chair. In unison, the other partygoers decided to leave. As we all headed towards the door, it opened and slammed shut. While chaos broke out, my friend and I decided to stay in one place. We drew a conclusion that the “Halloween  Scares”  were, in fact, ghosts. We heard a voice instruct us to be quiet, or we would never leave.

The entire party grew so silent you could hear a pin drop. Slowly, the door opened and we were permitted to escape. “Those ghosts sure are willful!” I thought to myself. As I slid into my car, I made a definite decision to never return to that house.

Five years later, I still have not returned to the site of that Halloween party. I have, however, experienced some unexplainable happenings in my apartment. Those stories will be told another time.

This was from the sixth grade, and I didn't even review it before I posted it, so it's probably terrible.
