Night

Night

A Poem by Vanusa

Night

Humid as a tomb.

Shivering cold, filled with a silence

That hunts.

But you are here

And you smell like freshness.

— Open and close of eyelids,

feet touching the grass

biting of nails,

You— unconsciously playing with your ear.

Me – stupid and dumb – finding it lovely—

Too big of a question and I, so little

I wish I could disappear

Evaporate, dematerialize or

blend in the dark.

And I wish I could kiss you

But that would be too loud.

Then, dragging my hand, as heavy as the darkness,

I let my fingertips touch your hair

Softly,

unsure.

Then my entire existence loosely hangs,

Cracked open, frightened and pale

A scared little puppy

Exposed to your gaze.

Time stands still

Even the night’s ghosts are frozen on their pose:

You should say something now…

"And I wish I could kiss you

But that would be too loud."

For some reason those two lines really struck me like a hammer. Well done. The whole poem is exquisite. Love the last line as well.
You've captured that moment of longing well. Kudos.
