Wrong and Wrong (Read All About It)

Wrong and Wrong (Read All About It)

A Poem by Vinyl Ottoman Sr
"

Lamenting the state of the world.

"

The news falls down

The words all scatter

Headlines scream

“World, what’s the matter...

With you?” With us?

Are we to blame

Just skim the page

It’s all the same

Lines and lines

Of endless peril

Dark and darker

Hope is sterile

Top to bottom

Goes the stream

A flooding,

Disappointing theme:

“Wrong and wrong

And wrong some more...

Murder, crimes

Disease and war”

But fold it up

Put it to rest

Ignore the facts

We can’t digest

Shut our eyes

And just stay numb

Pretend we’re not

What we’ve become

The news falls down

The words all scatter

Headlines scream

But it won’t matter

Another day

Another list

Of vital chances

We have missed

To fix the problems,

Cure the pain,

Erase the scars,

And clean the stain

Of everything

We didn’t do

Of all the problems

We’ve been through

But, no, it reads

Just as before

“Murder, crimes

Disease and war.”

Oh, these horrors

We’ve repeated

Has our goodness...

Been defeated?

Time will tell

And so will we

Paging through

Our history
