Sincerely yours

Sincerely yours

A Poem by Jemima Laing

Amber is burned into my memory as the smell of good sex

As fingertips whisper and lips make hollow promises along my collar bone

And flowing wings embrace us and hide us

My memories of you are bittersweet

Like the dark chocolate I kissed off your lips

Or the realization that you've moved on

You can't spend your entire life fighting every little battle

Eventually all your life becomes is fighting

And I've come to realize that holding on

To what we had is a battle I can't win myself

Time and pain have lifted the veil of love

Or perhaps coated it with thick soot

While it is generous to give more than you receive

I think your logic in applying this generosity

To something like criticism is a bit narcissistic

I hate to break the delicate cocoon

Of self delusion that you have woven

So I shall merely be the child in the street

Who in their naivety and lack of restraint

Points out that the self-proclaimed emperor is naked

And severely lacking in any crown
