Forever

Forever

A Poem by Jemima Laing

They say it’s better to love, and to have lost

Than to have never loved at all

And when all is said and done, it was worth the cost

Heart break, heart ache, it was worth the fall

Missing you isn't the hard part,

Because I know you’ll always be my friend

Knowing I once had you is what breaks my heart

And knowing that it had to end

Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get

Only with what you are expecting to give

And for what you gave me, I will always be in your debt

And you already had my soul; there was nothing else to give

You are my sorrow, you are my splendor

You are my shelter through storm and through strife

You are the one I will always remember

All of the days of my life
