Trust Me

Trust Me

A Poem by Jemima Laing

We used to be so close

We used to be so near

What changed our bond

From one of love and joy

To one of hate and fear

Just hear me out

Please don’t be so hasty

I just can’t comprehend it

I'm not sure what I did wrong

Why don’t you trust me?

Now you’re so testy, unfriendly

Persecuting me to no end

I'm afraid to say anything now

Lest I be judged unworthy

Don’t think me the enemy.

You don’t have to be so nasty.

It’s not some new trend

Being a b***h doesn't make me

Want to ever be your friend

What does this achieve?

I don’t like this new fad

Turning old friends

Into new enemies

I feel like I should leave

But I don’t want to widen this rend.

Why don’t you trust me?

What did I do

That lost me a friend?
