Laughter

Laughter

A Poem by Jemima Laing

The darkness descends slowly

a warm blanket on my soul

I sit on the floor, arms around me

As it lovingly embraces my form

Darkness holds me close and dear

To better soothe away my fears

Relaxing in its arms, feeling safe at last

I relate my deepest truths

My confidant listens all along

Relief, not reluctance dominates my heart

For darkness holds all its secrets close

And mocks those who hunt for them

The hunter's frustration grows

As out laughter echoes

My friend and I enjoy our joke

And the hunters portray us resentfully

As man always portrays the unknown
