sunshine

sunshine

We are not the tomorrow

That everyone was wishing for yesterday.

Not a hero, not a hero's friend.

Just people.

A medley of flesh, blood, wrinkles and mistakes.

Sip on life through a crinkle straw,

Never getting your fill,

But enjoying what you get.

Maybe it lasts longer.

Maybe we can build a time machine

And go back to yesterday and

Tell everyone to shut up

Because no hero is going to come to town.

Just a new neighbor, new teacher, new mayor

Whatever.

You cant draw a perfect circle

You cant grow wings

Your gun doesn't shoot straight

And your lawn mower blades need sharpening.

But your shoes work just fine

So go for a walk.

Put on your sunglasses and pray for sunshine.

And when it rains,

Wear your sunglasses anyway;

Because it doesn't get any better than this.

Sometimes it's difficult to see the positive side of things, but this poem does a very good job of summing up both how to keep moving and why to keep moving.
