Uno, Dos, Tres, Quatorze

Uno, Dos, Tres, Quatorze

A Chapter by VivianMarie

Jeanie had no interest in chasing after Joey after he ran off, but she wasn't sure whether she should finish the dinner or just leave. The waiter came over to the table "Do you want the check?"

"Why?"

The waiter shrugged "I just assumed since your date left..."

"Well, I don't. I would love a dessert menu."

A half hour later Jeanie left the restaurant and headed home. When she opened the door she heard the oddest squeal.

"Matt? Is that you?"

Matt jumped up. "Very funny. We've missed you. But I thought you'd be back later, if at all."

"Move over." Jeanie flopped down on the couch. "He left. Rather early. During the appetizers."

"Aw, why?"

"The correcting thing bugged him."

"Oh, well, I guess that's because he hadn't experienced your loud chewing yet. Or else he would have left because of tha--Ow!" he yelled after Jeanie slapped him. "Okay, seriously. That's not a horrible reason to not go out on a second date, but that's a jackass reason to bail in the middle."

"Thanks." Jeanie mumbled through the pillow.

"Is that it?"

"No. We got into it, and when he stormed out he gave me 50 bucks."

"Don't tell me that meant what I think it did."

"It did."

"A*****e."

"Whatever. The stupid thing is that I could of sworn that wouldn't happen. It's like the third date and umpteenth conversation."

"Clearly you guys weren't right. You found out sooner rather than later."

"Thanks. I'm really sorry, but would you mind if I feed Annaleigh?"

"Go ahead. Can we watch Entourage during?"

"No problem." Jeanie finally lifted her head up and picked up the baby. "Drama is exactly what I need. Get it?" she stopped to laugh at her own joke as she undid the top of her halter.

Matt chuckled "Yeah, cute."

After a few minutes Matt paused the show. "Can I ask you a personal question?"

"Of course."

"Do you want to know who Annaleigh's father is?"

"The only reason I would is if something happens. Like she gets sick."

"Do you want her to have a father?"

"Not really."

"Last question; since you clearly aren't soul mates, why were you so into Joey?"

Jeanie shrugged "You know, it's funny. I had heard cautionary stories of guys who falling in love with the girl because it was their first time. Nightingale-syndrome type thing. I guess all the other times I had just zoned out or whatever. With Joey, I was present. I knew what he wanted. And then after, I didn't want to date him but I just wanted to...I don't know, I guess know him more than a hook-up. Or something. Obviously when he asked me out, that wasn't completely my plan. But I had been pretty unpleasant on the date, and I thought getting to know him wouldn't hurt. And....I don't even know. He's not even my type. But I was up for it. I thought if we were both willing that I would go for it." Jeanie re-tied her top, and put the baby back in the crib.

"Can I guess? Even if the dating didn't work out you thought you'd get a friend out if it."

"I guess." she affirmed as she lied back down on the couch.

"I know you're not stupid, but seriously? Not your most forward thinking"

"Duly noted."

"Okay. I'm done. And I'm sorry that he's such a jackass." But at that point Jeanie was already asleep.
