The Lemon Law

The Lemon Law

A Chapter by VivianMarie

"I'm in town for a couple more days. You want to go out to dinner with me tonight?" Joey put his arm around Jeanie.

"Sure" Jeanie nodded. "There's this nice place called Thalia's."

"Let's meet there."

"Alright. I've got to go, there was a magazine I was going to buy." Jeanie stood up, grabbed Annaleigh, and before she left she gave Joey a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks for being so understanding." she said softly.

Joey waited until she was gone until he got up, grinning, he like Jeanie even more.

Joey ran into the studio where they were shooting the commercial just on time.

"Cutting it pretty close." Denny remarked.

"Yeah, I'm sorry."

"That girl with the nails?" Kyle asked "Was--?"

"Later." Joey said abruptly.

"Wait, Jeanie? She's here?" Denny chimed in.

"Yes. And I said later. We're late." Joey repeated as he rushed off.

Baby. Kyle mouthed to Denny as they followed Joey.

************************************************************

That night Joey and Jeanie were sitting at a dimly lit table.

"This is a nice restaurant."

"Thanks. So why are you in New York?"

"I told you, Chase kick-off."

"You did?"

"Yeah. It was that one really long talk we had."

"Oh, right." Jeanie said as she took a drink. She had actually fallen asleep during that call. Uninentionally. "Sorry. I forgot."

"It's okay."

"So, is it all interesting stuff? The racing?"

"Yes, so much. There was this one time..." Joey went on a long story. Or what seemed to Jeanie to be a thousand stories.

"...it was literally impossible--"

"--figuratively."

"Right. When they put on the tires, the car drove pretty good."

"Well."

"Okay. But one of the guys and me got into it."

"And I."

Joey slapped the table. "What  is your problem?"

"Sorry." Jeanie said insincerely.

"Do you enjoy correcting people?" He asked angrily.

"Actually, yes I do." Jeanie snapped back "Maybe you would notice if you talked about anything other than racing."

"At least people actually know me. You just keep everything secret. I'm leaving." On his way out, he dropped fifty dollars on the table. "There. For dinner. Or at least it's what you earned for listening for awhile."

As he stormed off, Jeanie chucked a shrimp tail at his head.
