Any Minute

This is really short.

Joey took Jeanie to a movie theater that shows classics. With any luck, she would pick a romance and they’d make out or something, but instead she picked some western film. During the move Joey kept trying to get closer to Jeanie, but she was putting as much distance between the two of them as thought possible. Every time Joey tried to hold Jeanie’s hand or put his arm around her she leaned away.

 

On the drive home Joey asked Jeanie “If you don’t want to drive, you can stay with me.”

 

His esteem took a pretty big hit when Jeanie laughed. “No, we don’t each other well enough.” And it was clear in her voice that she was saying that he wasn’t getting sex. Possibly ever.

 

Before Jeanie got out Joey leaned closer to her, hoping that they would kiss, but she only pushed him back. As she got out of the car Jeanie told him “I had a nice time. Thanks.”

 

As soon as she was gone, Joey banged his head on the steering wheel several times. How could he be so stupid? First, a movie was a terrible idea, they would be able to talk at dinner. Second, inviting her over was idiotic, no wonder she turned him down. Third, he shouldn’t have even thought of trying to kiss her. And fourth, why didn’t he say anything when she left? At least “drive safe” would have been better than just sitting there.

 

Jeanie didn’t think much about the date until she had gotten back to her motel room.  She really couldn’t have been more unpleasant, could she? There was a difference between keeping him at arms length and attacking him with a broom stick. But Jeanie just brushed it off, bad dates came and went and she had real things to worry about.
