The stalker walks faster as I
skirt down alleyways, my heart rate up. Sideways, down and up I go as his shadows move slowly against the windowpanes of the nearest shops, enclosing them in total dark. I swiftly glimpse behind at an empty narrow path soaked in rain; where is he? Panic settles in the deepest pores of my skin. Frantically I try doors - the barber's, beautician's, and pharmacy. But no, it's too late. I am alone. In the town's center I sit, curled, eyeing every corner of every street. He's nowhere, gone in a flash. Until the blade dances next to me - I must have fallen asleep. The ghostly reflection in the puddles befits my demise. Lips outline a scream unheard, cheeks white as chalk, I am just like him with my
