The Dead...

The Dead...

A Poem by Kristi Brooks

The Dead I Keep in a Box

At home I keep the dead in a box.

It’s more of a purse really, an antique

of my grandmother’s,

filled funeral pamphlets.

She’s in there, too—

my card catalogue for souls.

This is a very short but moving poem. I think most people
have a box for the dead or souls. I know I do, but mines
not in a box, it's in a folder. Good poem.

I think that I must have started making up stories in my head before I even learned how to read. My mom says that my ability to come up with such fantastic stories on a whim made it hard to get mad a.. more..
