Sleepless Night

Sleepless Night

A Poem by Ryan Greenham
"

A depiction of what it is like to suffer insomnia

"
The silver doorknob gleams in the moonlight,
a beacon for my journeys to the toilet
A fan shuffles like waves on the shore,
my only chance of reaching slumber

How many times can a man pee in a night?
Soon enough I start to count
One, two, five,
why did I drink so many fluids today?

And soon enough my mind wanders,
trivial matters absorbing my thoughts
"What if the bird really IS the word?"
"Are hot dogs sandwiches?"

I don't know how or when I drift off,
it just comes gently as a breeze
All i know is that it took too damned long,
and I'm not a patient person

Insomnia, you cruel b***h!
