Black SeaA Poem by Ryan GreenhamWhen love is drowning you, you need to pull yourself out
At first your eyes shined bright like diamonds,
bright like the moon on the evening sea, beckoning me to delve in But once underwater I saw what lied beneath, the abyss closing in all around, threatening to swallow me in with you And instead of drowning with you, I pulled myself back to shore, for that was all there was to save Now I wonder what I ever saw that night, what drew me into your black depths, And then I realized it was the moon, and how illuminated the surface But it wasn't enough to make me stay
