Disconnected From Messenger

Disconnected From Messenger

A Poem by Alex Hutchinson
"

What does it feel like to lose all belief in yourself?

"

It’s the sorrow of being untouched

By hand, by sound of voice

Reflected

It’s a wound within the chest

A throbbing ache

Regretted

It’s a dense fog of the soul

Succumbing to bad posture

The body language of one who knows

Only how to falter

It’s the beckoning gloom of endless night

The tireless wake of the surf

It’s a shelf stocked with memoirs that gave up the fight

Fear of a premature birth

It’s sitting alone

Cast aside

By one’s own expectations

It’s choosing to cry

Without knowing why

The pity your only salvation

As someone who's shelve is filled with memoirs, and even my own sits there, unfinished. I understood this piece. Succumbing to bad posture and dreaming of the flesh that shall only be read through the words of a cold computer screen. Endless nights that will never be fulfilled by the one thing that can truly make me feel whole.

I've read all your reviews and I must concur with everyone else...I loved the depth and insight of "its sitting alone, cast aside by ones own expectation." Great poem, one most have felt at some time. Not everyone has the words to create beauty out of their pain.

very poignant with emotons that some people face. you said it well and i thought the flow and meter were well done.
I cannot relate because i refuse to allow such thoughts to enter my mind even when faced with incredible opposition.
However i feel that you did a good job, it is all in the mind ya know

How often we all wander with doubt - you've penned that emotion wonderfully here in it's sadness

Bravo.
I'm sure some will read this with a confused look on their faces. Others will read it, nodding their acknowledgment of a very familiar feeling- disappointment in one's self-, and they'll know they aren't alone.

This poem was spot on because it gave across the message of self doubt.
I know from experience how this feels having lost my way and my faith so many times before in my life.

My favourite stanza...

It's sitting alone

Cast aside

By one's own expectations

Thanks for inviting me to read a truly convincing and accurate poem. Awesome job!

TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!!! Very beautiful, very haunting piece. I loved this. It captures a lot of how one can get totally down, especially when you feel--for lack of better words---life sucks! :o) A beautiful write.

Simply astounding. I loved this poem. I loved the flow, the imagery and the way the message was conveyed. Even the repetition served only to add to this work.

It's sitting alone
Cast aside
By one's own expectations

This is the best stanza in this poem, in my opinion. I loved this and found myself identifying. I know what it's like to give up on myself, even as others refuse to give up on me. I've had others fight for me when I refused to fight for myself. It's not an experience I care to repeat, but I guess I'm fortunate that they cared.

What is a poem but truth set in verse? No wonder people can identify with certain poems. They see bits of their own truth sprinkled within. It's the mark of a good poet. Thanks for sharing this with me.

By the way, it's = it is, which would make it's grammatically correct. Just an observation.
