Analysis of Darkness

Analysis of Darkness

A Poem by Joseph Cooper

What is darkness?

It is that which is devoid of light

But that could not even be said of night

For the stars shine and the moon glows

Could darkness also be found within man?

Darkness could be the lack of emotions

Or cynical and murderous devotions

But even they are not truly dark

Could darkness be the birthplace of fear?

Hidden within the dark evil can hide

From shadow to shadow it can slide

But that fear can happen even in light

Darkness it seems may be all three

Where there is not enough light to see

Where the soul can wither and empathy die

And monsters in the night can cry

Darkness may also be used for sleep

Where nightmares hold sway

Only broken by the coming day

But even sweet dreams may break its grip

Darkness then I believe has no definition

But only the fact that it is lights submission

There is light in everything. It's the amount that varies. I really enjoyed this concept. Thank you for sharing this :)
