Alone, Or Despised?

Alone, Or Despised?

A Poem by Joseph Cooper
"

What would you choose?

"

Is it better to be alone

Or to be despised

Letting out a moan

Not a single person by your side

Is it better to be yourself

Or to be what others like

They’ll put your heart upon a shelf

And then ram it with a spike

The crowd wants one from its soul

And sadly not all are the same

If you are not in the fold

They will force you to shame

They will make you hate yourself that is clear

For independent thoughts and feelings

They will drown you in a sea of fear

For your uniqueness sends them reeling

The throng will drown you in a sea of hate

Until you give up your mind

Their hunger for comformity you cannot sate

Until not a shred of you they can find.
