Dolls

Dolls

A Poem by Alice Kaparelli

I was your favorite doll

Together we did everything

Playing in your backyard

To cleaning your room.

When your brother

Threw me down your stairs

You would pick me up and ask

“Are you alright?”

We would go apple picking

And you helped me

Get the best red apples

From the top of the tree.

When you broke your arm

You held me tight,

Cried into my shoulder

And I comforted you.

Whenever you had friends over

You played with the others and me

But you would say, “She’s mine.”

Because I was special.

I was your favorite doll

Together we did everything.

You brought me everywhere,

I was always by your side.

But you’re thirteen now,

And too old for dolls.
