Ch. 13
Violet walked to the cutesy street sign of Promenade and park Ave., she never understood the necessity of a university campus having street signs.. Continuing to walk on park Ave violet saw legs hanging from a tree and only one foot having flip flop while the other one was bare and the shoe being on the floor. Automatically she knew who it was, Violet walked in front of the hanging feet, “What are you doing up there for?” Automatically there was a large grin upon the face, “Scaring the little people that pass by of course,” Evette happily said as she jumped off the branch. “You know the Cheshire cat doesn’t like waiting? What took you?” Evette kept interrogating her. Violet handed Evette her flop while being in question, “Look parole officer I was attacked on the way here,” Violet replied starting to walk towards the dining area. Evette followed along getting a bit quiet, violet started to feel a bit worried, “When the cynical cat gets quiet I assume that it is forming some devious plan against me.” “Have you heard about,” Evette paced herself and took a deep breath, “the death?” Violet froze in her steps looking on the floor, “It’s a beautiful day isn’t it?” Violet turned to Evette with a smile that slowly faded. “In fact the day is so nice it makes me sick!” she said in a melancholy tone. Violet practically ran into the lunchroom and stopped inside breathing heavily. “Hey wait up!” Evette yelled after her. Violet looked up searching desperately for him, “No he can’t, he can’t,” she thought to herself. Violet fell to the floor on her knees crying, “honey shhh…shhh…its okay,” Evette expressed sympathetically as she bent down to hug violet from behind. “I don’t understand why!” Violet yelled desperately making the environment in the lunch room and the people inside instantly silent and eyeing at the scene. Evette slowly stood up and stepped to the side, violet turned to her, “why?” she asked. “No one knows yet,” Nathaniel spoke as he hugged Violet from behind like Evette did. Violet’s heart halted dead cold as she heard his voice and saw his arms around her. “Nathaniel!” she screamed as she turned around and fell on him continuing to cry. “Hey, hey what is up with you screaming my name like if I was dead?” Nathaniel looked at Evette to find out if she knew the information as to violet’s reaction. Violet looked at the people passing by, hearing the birds chirp, trees rustling under the wind, bees buzzing by and coming to look at Nathaniel staring blankly at her. Violet tried to avoid his eyes as much as possible, but he wasn’t allowing it. They managed to get violet to stand up and walk to the table in the patio to calm down. Inside her mind she was going crazy, “who then who?” She kept asking herself. “Here” Evette said blankly as she handed Violet a cup of water that was fetched for her. “Thank you,” Violet replied quickly. “Violet what was that about back there?” Nathaniel asked his eyes piercing her skin. Violet gave a smile, “Oh it was nothing, just being silly. Just a misunderstanding, that’s all.” “What kind of misunderstanding,” Evette asked leaning against a tree. “Violet don’t play coy with me, not after that. Tell me now!” Taking a breath Violet looked at the sky trying to find any way to stall. “VIOLET!!” Nathaniel fiercely exclaimed. Violet gave a cringe, “I though that you were the one dead. When I got called, I went cold inside; I got maybe two hours of sleep. I don’t know how I thought it was you. It wasn’t even your mom but she sounded like your mom and I don’t know.” Violet quickly explained leaving no time to breath. After Violet finishing talking, she inhaled a large amount of air and finished the water given to her. “See what I told you of getting good adequate sleep.” Nathaniel spoke as if he was to discipline a child. “It was necessary. It wasn’t as if I was playing games all night. I was doing work and then it took me a bit to fall asleep,” Violet tried to argue defensively. “You got called that early in the morning?” Evette asked completely ignoring their discussion. Violet disconnected eye contact with Nathaniel and established on with Evette as she replied.” Yeah, she was crying. I didn’t understand at first but when I finally understood I wanted to go over immediately thinking it was Nathaniel but she denied. I came to school in denial, saying to myself it had to be some sort of mistake. I tried to pretend lie nothing happened. When you asked if I heard about the death I started to break down. When I didn’t see Nathaniel, I literally though it was him dead.” Violet stared at the cup and wiped her tears away that appeared while she was explaining. “You idiot, it was George that was murdered! I don’t see how you always mistake Nathaniel’s mom with George’s mom,” Evette said with out hesitation. “Don’t you think I already feel stupid and pathetic? I don’t need that exactly right now Evette.” “ Im just telling you the truth, don’t like it don’t listen” Evette said calmly as she sat at the table. “I’m curious why George. What did he do?” Violet shook her head, “I don’t know” “It’s all a mystery,” Nathaniel interjected finally. Feeling the cold tension coming from Nathaniel Violet felt at fault and kept her eyes on Evette. “I’m going to get some water,” violet announced as she started to get up. Evette quickly stood up and took the cup from Violet. Continuing to walk forward Evette waved her left hand, “Ill get it you just sit there and relax.” “Damn Evette, why!” violet cursed to herself.
