An Attempt at an Explanation

An Attempt at an Explanation

A Poem by Tara

No one understands why I sit morning after morning

with my legs dangling into Moriches bay

eyes peeled to the sky.

I suppose I would wonder too,

at this morning ritual.

There is just something about

the early light of dawn.

The bay takes the place of you.

Here you live, no longer ash and bones.

Here, memory renews itself

and I am a young girl again

awed by simple natural abundance.

Another salty breath brings me back

to gratitude.

I salvage my dreams

drunk with this landscape of silence.

If you sat with me one day

in the light of early dawn

you would see me as I am

a reflection of you;

of everything.

Nature reminds us that love is in the moment, then gone.
The underlying sadness/ acceptance is sublime.
Excellent last line

When I lived with beach front in Cutchogue Harbor, I woke just before dawn ; ran with my dogs down the beach then did morning Chinese exercises before seeing patients. There is something about living near by a beach that allows one to love the dawn. Now I sleep to noon or later in this disgusting sewer city. Retired and just to wake for food so I have energy for martial arts classes in the evening.

You made me wish for the salty water,
Jack

"drunk with this landscape of silence" all the chorus of zen masters are applauding and reaching for their haiku pencils...

I am a dawn lover as you can probably tell. I love early morning reflection and this poem is a wonderful example that is beautiful in thought and verse. The words gently color the theme as the morning sky slowly glows ever brighter.

Tranquil, indeed. Very soft and for me, full of tone and mood.
