Daughter

Daughter

A Poem by Tara

I felt the beginnings of you
like a mad rushing tide inside me.
I knew who you were
from the moment of conception.

You were that alive.

You stole every bit of my strength
forcing me to rest
while we created arms and legs

a strong  heart and eyes like the sun.

We were a team
protected by three angels
who still watch over us.

You were born to me
into prayers
and when it was your time

You came fast and hard
as this is your way.

I can still feel the ghost of you
inside of me
a fertile womb memory.

A phantom kick
warm rush of blood
as if you left an imprint.

You are stronger
than I could ever hope to be.
I see the days before you

How they spread out in anticipation
waiting for you to fill them;
to create them

as you have filled and created me.

There is a biblical feel to this.
Each line, a statement.
And where it isn't a statement it is almost one.

" while we created arms and legs "
Brilliant line.
I've never heard it described that way before.
The description I've heard is more of a "'whole thing'" coming together.
I like this. It's nice

Oh Tara, only a mother of a daughter could write something this radiant, this passionate and eloquent. "like a mad rushing tide inside me." I had to gasp, catch my breath. This entire poem is nearly breathless and moves at such a pace as to make me race to see how you finish. Then ..... start over and absorb all the nuances and words placed side-by-side in perfect symmetry: "You stole every bit of my strength/forcing me to rest/while we created arms and legs" Sigh. The "we" brought tears to my eyes.

Ah my dear, I have to have this. The last line finishes this piece with perfect truth. They do fill and create us.

Thank you for this masterpiece. What a talent you are.

wow. what can i say really? this poem is beautiful, unique, moving, and comletely uncritiqueable. lol.

i had to read it twice to even let it sink in.

the way you choose words. the ideas and metaphors.... the way it completely flows as one complete thought. the end is divine.

you take a beautiful journey and gently massage out deep meaning that will permeate my thoughts.

thank you.

Very moving. The love that the (said) person has for her daughter is very moving, how anticipation and how a simple satisfaction of being a mother gives her so much insight into her newborn baby.
