Disaster Approaches

Disaster Approaches

A Poem by Lauren N. Rodriguez

Disaster approaches
Such a lovely lady in red
Falls out her gleaming carriage
Unraveling every thread

They kiss her hand
Oh, overjoyed, they beg
But don't they understand,
She brings only regrets?

She drags her dress with grace
Gives you that pitiful stare
Don't get lost in her eyes I warn you
For calamity you'll have to prepare

Feel the stitched hemming of her seemingly intact gown
Feel each old rip and tear
Grab hold of her illusion
And give it a shake
This lady of red is disaster
Your soul being the take

And trust not this serpent
Such a vile beauty so sleek
She comes without repentance
And your secrets she will not keep

But take the sword
Dear brave hearted fool
Unsheathe thy truth
Lay her to rest
And do bury too her dress
