Simple Silence

Simple Silence

A Poem by Lauren N. Rodriguez

Those simple steps of silence
Speak louder than those stones
Those simple steps of silence
Indeed do break my bones

Mock me oh so silently
With the saying of no words
Ha! Mock me oh so willingly
Thinking I'm absurd

And walking on
Creation speaks
Whispers in the wind
Cries from the stream
Stepping cautiously
In hope it's all a dream

And maybe I've finally lost it
Gone a little mad
Perhaps I am off my rocker
Maybe just a tad

For nature should be hushed
And speak no nonsense
Stay in rhythm
And leave me to myself

But of course, oh joy!
The rocks they stare
But alas, I continue
Eying them with care

Looking closer,
At the cracks they have
Touching the surface
What characters they trap

Indeed a fault
Can be a smile
Those silly rocks
Across this mile

Looping around
In my unthreaded thoughts
I've come to find
That it's my mind
I've lost

Imagining voices
And hearing stones
Indeed it must be
That I am alone

For no one begs
And listens out
Takes sides with a stone
Or what it may shout

No help for me
On this desolate way
This simple silence
I hope will stay
