Soulful Deception

Soulful Deception

A Poem by Lauren N. Rodriguez
"

To those who have come to know that the worst of loves can be the greatest poison.

"

You were an illusion of smoke n mirrors,
A facade of broken glass and a bend of light
You were the haunting mirages,
Like the memory of a black rose;
You were all I hoped for
And surely, everything I'd regret

I looked down at the water and saw my reflection fading
Each ripple taking effect and sweeping me away
I touched my face and began to question
If this would truly be the right way
And like a convulsing sword, you slit me perfectly
Cut me in two
One part of me unable to reach the other half of my heart
For it was you
And they say you never bite the hand that feeds you,
But when blessings are only wretched curses
It's all one can do to bite back
In the name of love
In devotion to sanity
Through a pledge of loyalty
And the spirit of a beating heart
I close this chapter
Looking for a fresh new start
I close these books
With endless blank pages
The one with no title
And people with no faces
And these letters continue
In a tale of mockery
For what one may think of as love
Is only hypocrisy
