Retaining A Fistful

Retaining A Fistful

A Poem by Lauren N. Rodriguez
"

Incidentally confrontational.

"

With a throbbing fist
And heated palms
A fiery purpose
Because of your wrong

And you led me to it
Pushed me this far
Wanted to be me
Instead of who you are

And your sorry excuses
Are getting pathetic
I've found new friends
Don't you get it?

And this notebook you start
In it's girly pink
Will somehow get lost
And you'll start to think

And I'll laugh both ways
With my cynical smile
Chuckle at your plan
That'll last only a while
But little do you know
That the jokes on you
Laughing behind your back
Because you thought you knew

But were a little older
And time has shown us
That giving the cold shoulder
Shows a little less than trust

So we'll tell you this
All four of us here
It's time to grow up
Because you're nowhere near

And while you wish to be "in"
You'll leave knowing you're not
Stop trying so hard
Just look at yourself and stop

Because at your young age
You should seriously know better
Realize the souls you break
As none of us surrender

So this notebook ends
Before it can be started
Blank pages reign
Above the broken hearted!
