Aphtoktonos, the EternalA Poem by StargazerA lil' bit of astrophysical knowledge combined with a fantastical creature I though of.Into vast seas of opium I swim As I leap with might from dream to dream With each blink I change dimensions Are they better realities or beautiful deceptions? Solar flares bathing alien worlds with light Competing against numerous stars adorning the night Until I found myself in a world empty but vast From where I stood to the horizon, t'was covered in salt Monotony broken by a humanoid creature Which lacked eyes and sex yet displayed horrid features Twice times a man in height It's skin was pallid and it smelled of blight A gaping wound tore its chest apart Its sharp rotten teeth were chewing on its heart 'Whose is it?' I asked, 'and how does it taste?' oh heart-eater T'is my own in a hoarse voice it said, and it tastes bitter 'Oh, creature why is your skin naked, twisted and burned?' 'Young mortal child, if only you had learned' 'If only you had heard Whispers terrible and old, If you had seen what I have seen You dare think you would not devour the heart you own?' 'How come you still stand?' I asked while being bold 'I know as many secrets as there are particles of sand With immortality being my curse and toll' 'Your words deem your actions paradoxical Attempting to die while gifted with immortality is nothing but illogical' 'Tell me, mortal traveler, as the cosmos stops expanding and time is dying As our world is claimed by darkness, who are you to blame me for trying?'
