Game of Power

Game of Power

A Poem by Q
"

A satire on the few corrupt but clever politicians in India and how they fool the masses with their gimmicks

"
‘I give you …. A free and prosperous nation’ screamed the self-proclaimed hero
But if we were to believe him, all our bank accounts would read just zero
It is so cool that he gives each of us a truck load of goodies all for free
It is just for us to show him our support in an election where we won’t vote

The election is fixed; it is not defined to happen fairly, that’s the world
But still, he gives us a good allowance plus gifts to vote for him
It is amazing that there is more than one idiot doing the same manifesto
But all the money he gives us is returned to him with interest, manifold

After all, no one comes to power to serve in this large democratic nation,
Corruption and Election are the spotlights of this wonderful nation,
The winner mints money while the losers plot to topple the winner
He did not loose all that money just to be the peacemaker we deserve

He is a wonderful accountant, he writes them flawlessly and accurately
Less than ten percent of the total expenditure is for us, rest is for him
But no income tax officer can trap him, for he is absolutely prolific
And that is democracy for you; every man has his right to steal

Never be honest, if you are then you are not a politician at all
Lie but do it with expertise, you are a fully qualified professional politician
He eliminates his enemies easily with an iron hand but rogues prevail
That is the beauty of democracy; you have the license to be totally fooled

We support these guys even if we have to self-immolate knowing their fraud
But we ignore the thousands of people who live for their fellowmen
They will never care for us; they are not educated about our problems
But their skill in ‘Section 420’ is beyond what our education can give

And we are proud to live in the greatest democracy, that’s the beauty of it
We are not likely to change nor will they allow us to change
We are doomed in this land as Darwin’s Theory of ‘Survival of the fittest’
Will there not be a savior for us, one to help us and care for us?

The time is ripe but there is no savior
