Oblivion

Oblivion

A Poem by Vidya Bacchus
"

Sometimes you just want to sink.

"
                                                                          Oblivion

My pain is my own,
Yet you stand there with your pity,
And "I know how you feel"
How could you? Why would you want to?
I wish to feel numb safe from this torment,
And you want to "understand this feeling"
I want to be appreciative and grateful,
For your kindness but I'm hurt,
And you don't understand,
And no, you have no inkling of my sorrow,
Leave me be,
Let me drown in nothingness.
And if you are my friend,
And you want to ease my pain,
You will meet me on the other side,
Where your kindness isn't like a thorn,
Digging deeper into my wound,
But a healing salve on my aching heart.

Sometimes we need to be on our own and paddle our
Way out of our own darkness, it's then we need friends
on the other side, well expressed Vida, best wishes, paddy.

It's tough knowing that some people really feel better off dead. We all want a purpose, that's why we're here isn't it? There are things that can help pull you out of the dark abyss...but you can't help those who don't want to be helped. So sad :/

when all fails there is always a life line known as hope

okay, honestly vidya i can relate to this 150% (if there ever is such a thing) anyways, the raw bitterness of this poem is so relatable. Even with the best intentions, a friend who's there for us at our toughest moments can add to our pain. Its like we want to be left alone but yet we wnat someone to be there too. nice work hun!

This was wonderful in the poignancy of feeling it induces. Indeed, people tend to be like this, assuming to know exactly what one is going through when in fact pain from person to person has its own flavour. But I guess it's a way to "connect" and perhaps is a well meaning gesture. Excellent poem this, I could go on and on about its greatness. Thanks for sharing.

This is really profound - and I am glad that I am reading it - true confessional poetry - the line I like the most is "Let me drown in nothingness."

You express beautifully the damage friends and family can inflict when they try to say something when we are sinking. Superficial judgements. Holier than thou statements. "What if" comments. And all we really need is just someone to say, "I am with you.....can I wash the dishes or make you dinner?" In the bible there is a character called Job, who had everything taken away from him, and his friends saw his depression, and said nothing for a week - which was wise, but when they started speaking, they did judge him......they should rather have kept quiet longer! :)
