Letter To Priya

Letter To Priya

A Poem by Vidya Bacchus
"

Words to my daughter

"
                                               Letter To Priya
I know you're sad sometimes,
And words ring hollow,
Even from those you know love you,
Life is strange and unexpected,
There's no handbook and no manual,
And most likely it would be in a foreign language,
If it existed.

But you needn't worry little one,
Life could never,
Wear down a spirit as strong as yours,
Or a  heart as big as yours,
Or ever dull a smile as gorgeous as yours,
So if you're tired take a rest,
If you need to talk talk to me.
You'll make mistakes ,
But that's how you learn,
You'll have your heart broken ,
But you'll find someone,
Who'll help you mend it,
Because life is hard,
But it can be so great and you will hold it in the palm of your hand.

reading simply takes the breath out of me .. i raised my children (2 boys and 2 girls) by myself as their mother died at a very early stage of the game .. a long time ago now .. but even now (children all grown and with their own families) i can see their mom saying just this thing ... your poem .. and these situations do continue sometimes .. i intend to copy this (with credits due;) and send it to my oldest (a daughter) as i think she will be blessed ... may i?
E.
ps. i think this is one of the best (what i call) prose /poems i have read ... it packs such an emotional appeal .. well done says i!

If a mothers can't be sappy, then .. who else have the right to! (Fathers are actually included but Vidya is this moment's focus)

As far as the content: there's such wonderful sincerity in your words, they're never over-sugary but good old-fashioned love.. and, there can never, NEVER be enough of that. Never. As to the style and flow, it's true, traditional and more than worthy of an anthology.

Not sappy at all, Vidya. Honest and written from the heart of a loving mother. Life will not be easy or perfect and now matter how much we would like to create a perfect life for our children, we can not do that. Indeed, there is no manual and I smiled at the line saying it would be in a foreign language if it existed. Wonderful work, Vidya. Lydi**
