My Boys

My Boys

A Poem by Vidya Bacchus
"

Just some thoughts

"
                                                My Boys

I just wanted to say to my boys,
I may not always be here,
To yell at you and make you see reason,
So I wanted to say to you,
Treat women with as much love and respect,
As you would me.

Don't be a follower be a leader,
Always be kind and look out for your sister,
Like your uncles look out for me,
Be mindful of your father,
And look to him to see who and what a man is.
Because he is the best example.

I have to be honest some days I want to return you guys,
But no one would take you and I would miss you,
Even if you drive me up a wall more often than not,
Life is short and it goes by fast,
Before you know it you'll be men,
But be the best men you can be.

Think before you act,
Even if I don't we've established I'm looney,
Because every decision has consequences,
And you'll have to deal with them,
That's all I got for now,
Know I love you and I get it now "boys will be boys"

For me, those words jump out with amazing sincerity and are.. the heart of everything you write before it. You truly know how to lay words down that mean far more than mere letters.

'Looney' you might think.. but what a wise and adorable one! Sweet sage you are. x

There is no other calling more noble than to raise the next generation with love and faithful intentions.
I know your "boys" will cherish this poem for years to come.

I love this poem so much. I feel like I'm not worthy enough to comment on such a piece but I just can't hold it in. The sincerity is touching and the down-to-earth tone is the cutest thing I've ever found on this site. It felt like I was reading a letter to your kids, something which I obviously shouldn't be doing, but I guess it is just a testimony to how remarkably well it has been written. The first two lines grabbed my attention and it sets the pace for an emotional and serious advice. I'm sure they are lucky to have you and I think you'll be around long enough for them to be able to stand alone by God's grace.
