Change

Change

A Poem by Vidya Bacchus
"

who knows why.

"

                         Change

How did we get here?

To this place of broken dreams,

How did we become those people,

Like ships passing in the night?

I have no defence or explanation ,

To quiet the demanding voices clamouring for answers.

You look at me and it is so strange,

How your glance skates over me,

You smile, but your sadness is too great,

You laugh but it sounds forced.

Is it so easy then to lose something,

That takes forever to find?

The ache in my heart is like an open wound,

The pain leaves me gasping for breath,

That I am not sure I really want to come,

Fiery kisses that once fired my blood ,

Now seem cold and undeserved.

And promises whispered on willing ears now float away unheeded.

I am smiling because my pride won't let me falter,

And you are trying to force answers,

That dare not come,

I am broken as surely as if thrown from the tallest tower,

And you are going to be just fine ,

Because your dreams changed to not include me anymore .

Vidva, been there, done that. It was, and is, unbelievable when the person you have loved for years suddenly becomes a stranger to you. I realize I was different after my car wreck and resulting coma, but my ex believed I would never change; that how I was right at that moment was how I'd be forever. I was trying to act normal with 1/2 my brain tied behind my back. The hospital offered her counseling, so she might have understood a little better, but she wouldn't hear of it. If she thought SHE didn't understand what I was going through, how did she think I felt?

Whew. I feel like I was out and hung up to dry. This sounds so painful, the dull ache of love dying while one suffers its demise. It is a beautifully written verse, and heartfelt, and honest.

This is very sad but many often times what or place we want to get to but ofter don't! You have captured the dismal outlook and the plea in the heart not to include anymore but sounds like the desire gone astray. Well written though...picture is very clear.

Such a relatable piece, Vidya and sadly I think we all go through it at some point. No one ever promised something would last forever. You really touched my heart with this piece.

Okay lol......:)
Some people try to force outcomes and demand answers and have dreams that do not involve others. The other side clamors to get answers and gasp for breath of fresh air...Sad but beautiful...:)......

Wow, Vidya. A significant turn away from your other poems that I have read lately, but that doesnot mean its any less good. Your other poems are fun, crazy and bring a smile on my face each time I read it, and then comes this, the words that you take to describe, is deep. This is so serene like still water in a moonlit night. You bring out the best always and somehow make me feel "Hey this is so like what is in my mind right now." Loved it Vidya, you inspire me.
