Mirror

Mirror

A Poem by Vidya Bacchus
"

It is easy to judge others

"
                               Mirror
I look into the mirror,
And I am confused at the person,
Staring back at me,
Eyes filled with hopelessness,
Etched on a face that seems ,
Too young to be so old.

I cursed at you ,
And damned you for your choices,
That dug you a grave,
And buried you deep into an endless disconnect,
I judged you and proclaimed you guilty,
Only now realizing how easy it is to condemn.

Shadows of broken reflection,
Flicker on and off in my deserted mind,
Barren and forgotten,
Buried under decisions ,
That I have to convince myself ,
Are better than what you would have made.

Perhaps the mirror lies,
And the despair in my eyes,
Are a figment of a tortured imagination,
This destiny was foisted on me,
Because I deemed you unworthy,
Now the look in my eyes is twin to yours.

We torture ourselves every day, don't we? Often we treat others we meet...strangers really....far better than we treat ourselves. "Etched on a face that seems , To young to be so old." A very powerful line! The word "to" should be "too" though. A small correction. So very emotive....and filled with deep regret. Lydi**

Encore, encore this is excellent reading. I'm glad you happened by my page so I get a chance at this magnificent writing. I enjoyed the way you carefully crafted this poem it seems of self examination first to condemn and then finally forgive yourself. We all do it but most of us do not forgive ourselves behind it but the introduction to this poem was gripping.

Thank you Shirlena .If we cannot learn to forgive ourselves we will always be haunted :)
Sometimes we are hardest on ourselves. We make mistakes what we need to do is learn from them. They shape us in ways we cannot foresee and not all of those changes are bad. This is the kind of poem filled with a contemplative shadow.

you are welcome....
Guilt is a powerful force, but not as powerful as self forgiveness...
We forgive ourselves so that we can forgive others. We forgive others so that we may be forgiven.
It is through understanding that we are understood. It is through self forgetting that we are found. It is through forgiving that we are forgiven. And it is thru dying that one awakens to eternal life. :)

Thank you so much !!!
How can we learn to love when we do not love our own soul?
You pose a great dilemma.
We are failures and we make bad choices. We are dark and disgusting inside. We lose track of right and wrong from time to time... This is all true for the very best of humanity.

Still, we are powerful. We can choose to change and try again. We do succeed from time to time. We are not alone in our struggles. (Higher Power and more...).
A crack of forgiveness will push the darkness away.

Yes, it is good to realize who the enemy is and who we really are... Mirrors can be deceiving you know. ;)

Great poem! Loved the philosophical stimulation.
