WORDS

WORDS

A Poem by Vidya Bacchus
"

about not sharing your feelings for fear of rejection

"

              WORDS
Sometimes it 's easy to forget ,
Just how fleeting this life is,
Like a comet blazing its way across the heavens ,
One minute,
It's light burnt out the next.

I feel soo much that I cannot say,
To those I love,to those who love me,
The words stuck in my throat,
Like a bird locked in a cage,
Slamming itself against the confines of its prison.

My words on this page,
Lay witness to feelings I cannot voice,
To emotions that remain unnamed,
To stories that lay untold,
By its mute bard ,that knows no sign language.

To offer a clue to what lay unspoken,
Inside a heart afraid of rejection,
Of mockery, of conversations,
Laced with saccharine sweetness,
Daring not to question lest the answer wounds me.

In this I willlngly wear the guise of a coward,
For to see condemnation,
In the eyes of those who hold my love,
Would tear me asunder and break me,
As surely as if I were glass tossed heedlessly to the floor.

So I keep these feelings to myself,
And trap them deep in the confines of my soul,
Where they cannot cause me harm,
Were they not reciprocated,
And pray that I will not be a coward all the days of my life.

That I will one day be brave,
Enough to trust those I love,
To love me back ,
Unquestioning and accepting ,
Of my many flaws as I willingly am of theirs.

I hope you do let that bird out of its cage, Vidya. You might just find that those you love are as forgiving of you as you are of them. I love this poem! It speaks for many people who are afraid of being themselves because of a fear of rejection. You couldn't have said it better and I give it an A+

Very true.
"Daring not to question lest the answer wounds me"
Great line...and a deeply expressive, sensitive poem. I hope that you will find the courage to say those words aloud...life's too short to keep important words trapped inside, my friend. Wonderful writing.
