The hidden optimist

The hidden optimist

A Poem by Vidya Bacchus
"

about only seeing the bad in things and wishing you could change

"

THE HIDDEN OPTIMIST

From Eve's sin and Adam's shame,
Countless messiahs appear quoting your name,
Promising Eden again in their vision,
For the price of yor soul you can join their religion.

Time has become monotonous loyalty a myth,
Stupidity rules our leaders prove it,
I have become bitter by the cards dealt to me,
Unable to fathom the things that pass for normalcy,

I saw soo much evil and I wished for the best,
I studied your prose and took every test,
Trying and failing time and again,
To escape from our legacy of treachery and pain.

I see people smiling and persevering even through failure,
Seeing the best in others when I see only the monster,
I feel envy to know their spirit has never been lost,
When my insight has come at such a  great cost.

Where once children knew to play with each other,
We have entered the glorious age of the computer,
I hope my skepticism is misplaced,
That humanity steps forward to win out this race.

To prove goodness will triumph after  all,
That wicked will topple and ultimately fall,
And perhaps then the cynic in me will be no more,
And the optimist would have won the war.

MY pleasure...Any time...:).....................
Extremely cynical view of the world, but I do understand your position. It is a shame that people, not just children, have decided interacting with a phone or some other electronic device is more important than drinking in the beauty of nature or speaking with another person face to face. Persevering through hardship takes inner strength....and optimism. That is not always easy to achieve, is it? Your words are well written. lydi**

Thank you lydi my point exactly.
Really nice: the prison life is/can be, religion, experience, change, accepted norms, perseverence...
There is a Spanish saying: "Think the worst, and you'll be right.", and another, similar to the English: "Hope is the last thing to die".
I like the way this ends on a positive, optimistic note.
