California

California

A Story by Victoria

She sat beside me, her hair blowing out the window, as she sang, out of tune but exuberant. The smell of salt and sunshine, a California smell, blew in threw the window, as she inhaled and turned to me, brown eyes shining as she uttered her first I love you. Things have never been so clear as they were in that moment the freckles on her nose, the blue of the passing ocean, and that California smell. Stunned, I muttered an I love you back although hers will always be better than mine. She's passionate, honest, trusting, she's California.

I live in San Jose, California, and I love your poem. Very nicely written.

Tenderly fragrant with her sacred scent. I grew up near San Francisco and lived a few years in LA. Your words awakened this world I'm missing so much right now. Beautifully voiced.
