Garden DazeA Poem by Victor GammaA reflection on gardeningGARDEN DAZEMetal sinks into earth, Sure in my solitude, I worked the ground alone Vast reaches of hot sky showing my worth I am not alone. The fair earth reveals creatures frantically writhing and escaping in grotesque silence from my death-metal plunge that shakes and plunders their world. Climbing and clawing up my mountains they live again, Destiny-food of superior beings A subtle flicker of dancing shadow distracts me Above and behind on the corner of my sun-blinded eye. And there, buried deep in the green tangle of sweet-smelling vine, A second on yon fence then, skipping across my sight, chasing frolic on the wind a blazing opportunist glides laughingly over my sodden, clod-bound effort My approach brings invisible naughty rustlings. Twin sky-dwellers, alerted by the turning of my head trace a liquid dance in the air that dissolves instantly into warm air I wipe the falling sweat from my brow, sadly pondering the Curse, This banishes the dancers from my company and I return without them to my husbandry, As if to remind me not to brood A hidden choir charms the air.
