Chapter 1: The New KidA Chapter by Victoria (Anya Scott)Danielle hates her new school. Snotty girls, annoying teacher. What happens when she meets Alex? The bad boy of the school. What happens when they get together and have to keep it from Danielle's mom?
Don't do this, Don't do that. That's I hear from my mother. She's all
about rules and regulations, well she never use to be. Ever since we've
moved to Chicago, she's been throwing these rules out at me. Like I
care. My mom's name is Kacie, she's a great mom, 1% of the time. The
thing is my mom has never cared about me at all. I have to cook my own
meals, do my own laundry, even pay a monthly rent. It's funny she hasn't
kicked me out yet.
My names Danielle, and I just moved to Chicago. I use to live in St.Jacobs in Ontario. I loved it there. The people were amazing, the teachers were always trying to help me and we loved in an amazing house. But mom decided she needed a bigger sex life, so we moved here. To Chicago. Sorry, I've started to babble. My problems began my first day of school in Chicago. I thought it would be great, but I was wrong. ---------------------------------------- It was the first day of school. The dreaded day. I awoke when my alarm clock went off and with all my force I turned it off. I checked the clock to make sure it was right. 6:30PM. That seemed like the right time. I rubbed my forehead and got up against my own will. My mom hadn't gotten up yet, she never got up before 10:00AM. I walked up to the bathroom ad wet my face with a water covered towel. I observed myself in the mirror and rubbed my eyes. It took me a couple minutes to get myself together and get dressed. By the time I was downstairs getting my breakfast ready, it was 7:00AM. I had an hour until I had to leave. I cooked myself some eggs and sat down to eat them. I looked outside as I ate and enjoyed the beautiful view of the city. I finished eating and then did the dishes. A long a boring morning right? That's what I thought. I stood outside my door and waited to get on the bus. My ipod was in my ears and I was currently listening to "When I'm Gone" by Simple Plan. It took forever for the bus to show up, but it did. I got on the bus and took a seat near the front of the bus. I noticed that everybody's eyes were on me, why wouldn't they be? I was the new kid. I looked out the window and watched as the trees went by. My morning continued to bore me. I arrived at school a couple minutes later and rushed off the bus. I looked around at the high school scene. This school was big, and busy. People were rushing around, talking with friends and waiting for the bell to go. I stood in the middle of this wild scene for a couple minutes, observing my surroundings. I had finally had enough and made my way inside. People began giving me awful glares as I walked down the hallway and looked for my locker number. I had a couple minutes until my first class. The classroom was busy, really busy. I sat at the back of the room and watched everybody as they talked. The teacher walked in just as the bell went. "Class" She sat there looking sternly at everyone. They all quieted down. "That's better" She pulled out a sheet from her suitcase "Now, we do have a seating arrangement" Everyone sighed. "And it's in alphabetical order" She began to call out the names going from A all the way to Z. When she called my name. I got up and slowly made my way to my new desk in the corner. My favorite spot. After calling out everyone's name. She began her lecture. "Now then. My name as some of you might know is Miss. Jane" Miss. Jane spelt her name on the board. Like anyone didn't know how to spell that. "I will be your teacher all term" She announced turning back toward us "To begin, can anyone tell me why we study the English language?" A girl near the front put up her hand. "To bore us to death?" Miss. Jane smiled "No, even thought that's what you think. Anyone else have an idea?" She waited a couple minutes and finally picked on a guy in the back row. "What do you think Micheal?" Micheal shrugged his shoulder. We went through like 6 people before the right answer came up, which led to a note. After a whole class of notes, the bell finally went. Everyone rushed up to leave, but Miss Jane asked me to stay. When everyone had left, she smiled down at me. "You didn't really say much in class?" I looked to the ground "I have that kind of personality, you know" "I just wanted to say welcome" She smiled "I'm new here as well" I nodded my head "Thank you" "No problem" She went back to her board and began to write something on it "I doubt you'll hear welcome from any of the staff" I walked out of the room carrying my books. I still got glares from everyone as I walked down the hall, and it was bugging me a little bit now. After making a trip to my locker I walked to my math class. People were already inside, mostly everyone I'm guessing. I looked around the room and had to sit near the front. I turned around to look at the room, and noticed a guy starring at me. I suddenly felt awkward and quickly faced back towards the front. The bell went again, and I sighed, hoping this class wouldn't be as long as I feared. We got another seating arrangement, this time we were placed in alphabetical order due to our last names, and I ended up far away from the kid who wouldn't stop staring at me. "Alex" The math teacher exclaimed "Is there something about the new student that you find interesting?" I closed my eyes. I hated being embarrassed in front of the class. Especially because of a guy I didn't know. Alex? So that was his name. "No" Alex glared at the teacher The math teacher frowned at Alex "Good. Then maybe you'd pay more attention to my lesson" I relaxed. It was great to know that some random guy wasn't staring at me. But when I looked back, he still was. I didn't understand what would cause someone to stare at me. Math class was boring, just dumb Algebra review. When the bell went I rushed up and basically ran out of the classroom. Spare. One of the best things about being in grade 11. I went outside and sat down on a bench. I admired the view, it felt good to be out of the open. I suddenly heard a voice behind and turned around to see a tall blond girl with a group of her friends. I could feel an emptiness inside my stomach, just looking at her made me feel awkward. "Hey new kid" The girl called out "How's it feel to be in a place where you know you don't fit int?" I turned back around and ignored her comment. Just what I need, a fight on my first day at school. "Hey new kid. I'm talking to you" She came up behind me and pushed me down to the ground. I still didn't do anything. "What are you deaf?" I shook my head. "Then speak" I didn't say anything. "Hey! Janet" A voice from behind me said "What's up with picking on the new girl?" I turned around to see Alex. He stared at the the girl. "We weren't making fun of her" Janet looked down at me "We were saying hi" I rolled my eyes as I got up and pushed the dirt off my pants. Janet smiled at me (obvious a fake smile) and walked off with her friends. I sat down on the bench and continued to frown. "You okay?" Alex propped himself on the bench I nodded my head "Yeah" He smiled "Good. Being the new kid sucks eh?" "Oh yeah" I smiled "It really sucks" There was a long silence. I concentrated on the trees and how much they were swaying back and forth. "So uh" Alex began walking off "I should go" He walked off "Wow" I said to myself "What a conversation" © 2010 Victoria (Anya Scott)Author's Note
