In Search of Closure

In Search of Closure

A Poem by Vanessa P

You're not fair

You hardly were

And yet here I am

Still right here

In a day

I will depart

Then what?

What will be of us?

Will I just be a memory?

Lost in the many

You'd wish to forget

You end up to regret

Why does it matter?

I have no clue

Guilt, I know

Aren't we all guilty of something?

But in the end

We were never that

Not what we promised to be

Because we pretended

Now it's over

It's finally over

At least for me it is

Goodbye

Powerful words... This is obviously written from an emotional perspective, and in respect for that, I will keep my commenting to a minimum. The writing was great...I especially liked the questioning line. The tone of the poem was both melancholoy and innocent...an odd mix, but it really made me "feel" as I read. Nicely done.

I think this poem is something many people will be able to relate to. Things can end between people simply because we're all flawed human beings. Maybe that wasn't exactly the case for the characters in this poem, but this is what I thought of. A few weeks ago, I watched a movie called "Flannel Pajamas." It was about the courtship and eventual demise of a relationship between a man and a woman. The movie had some very poignant, moving moments that really stuck with me. This poem reminded me of it.
