bob and weave

bob and weave

A Poem by Sherrill Layton

...the tide is foolish to give follow
so meekly to the wane of the Moon
taught silver harp strings attached to
nothing but the orbit of a Fool

a Fool in turn following the Sun-
that emperor's champion of sky

mark this voyage, burned and wind-torn smile
we cannot deny Nature's bounty

memory serves this purpose

I sat there once
with cadent strength
but discovered
an errant lie...
the Truth has me now
in an undertow
of kind sea horses

donning watery blinders and
following the reign of the tide
