Lore The Warforge WizardA Story by venomMy next d&d character. Edited by KnownissuesLong, long ago the Archwizard Soong was experimenting with the arcane science of creating life from the void. Indeed, he had succeeded in creating small living animals from parts he kept in his workshop. He began to have some success with combining golemancy and necromancy to bind souls to golems. Due to the great war no one had taken any notice of his experiments and those who did said nothing, out of fear. For they knew that to go against the archwizard was to go against death, itself. Soong’s proficiency grew. His greatest success arrived in the creation of a most curious creature: a soul bound in an animate machine; a humanoid of metal, stone and crystal. This entity was clad in an armor of adamantium. He called it “BK-12”. BK-12 was a monstrosity on the battlefield. Soong was commissioned to make a great many more. However, what he produced were nothing but ersatz renderings on the original design of BK-12 as Soong was constantly preoccupied with a new set of mysterious experiments. BK-12 himself was a fully sentient being, a soul bound to a body. Though he tried to stop killing, he could not, for Soong had some insidious device built into his armor that negated his will. BK-12 was forced to kill droves of men who stood no chance against his implacable power. In order to cope with the senseless genocide he was driven to commit, BK-12 suppressed his emotions and personality and came to accept what he could not change: Soong’s total control over his actions. He lived by the ineluctable logic, “No escape. Them or me.” After a great many years Soong began to approach the end: his mortal body had commenced to rot and decay. On the eve of his death he repented the vile actions of his life and sought to save the soul of BK-12. He instructed BK-12 with one last command before destroying the command module that controlled him, “Burn my research, for there can never be another of your kind, take yourself and my spellbook to the mountain, entomb yourself until all memory of this has gone from the minds of the living and the pages of history, and all the kingdoms have gone to dust. Then, like the phoenix, emerge from the ashes, shed your past and live free a new life. A good life””. BK-12 knew this would be impossible in his current form, so with the help of his creator he shed his armor, his weapons of war, and lastly purged from his own mind any knowledge of his creation or the means of creating his kind. He at last followed his late master's wishes and went to a mountain and entombed himself deep inside. The spellbook of Soong is bound in adamantium and obsidian and kept hidden in the very heart place of BK-12, an unknown compartment in the center of his upper body. Upon waking in his tomb after his great hibernation, he was found himself awash with emotion which he immediately took pains to suppress. There was one thing he needed to do: choose a new name for a new life. His previous name was awash in blood, a legacy he now intended to desert but not to forget. So he chose a new name; one to honor those long past, a name he promised never to forget. That name is “Lore”. © 2013 venom |
