The Lesson

The Lesson

A Poem by Gypsy
"

Lessons I've larned in life

"

I have learned that it's not always about love
Sometimes it is about hate
That some days you shine as bright as snow
Others are dim and black as coal

I have learned that you can't learn the lesson
Unless you are 'willing' to embrace it
That sometimes you have to hold on
Sometimes you need to let go

I have learned that just when you think
You have it all together
One single human
Can blow your cover

I have learned that the more you crave possessions
The more they own your soul
That balance of want and need
Are the wisdom and fountain of eternal wealth

I have learned that pain is a healer
And that love is a drug
That the more you want it to happen
The less likely it will

I have learned that no matter how much you try
Sometimes it just can't work
For that which is right for me, is wrong for you
That beauty lives
 in the process of knowing

I have learned that one's optimism
Can breed contempt among peers
And true happiness - is an inside job
If attained to the core… nothing can pierce it

I have learned that every day is a new beginning
And forgiveness is nectar that frees the soul
Resentment is poison that kills the spirit
That wisdom comes in knowing - which one to drink

I have learned that nothing can make you whole
Except the empowerment of you
That answers lie within
It is the questions - we must search

I have learned that when I die
A new day begins again
That I am just a player in time
A free spirit true to her calling

Love it! It is so true, all of it. I especially relate to this part:

"I have learned that every day is a new beginning
And forgiveness is nectar that frees the soul
Resentment is poison that kills the spirit
That wisdom comes in knowing - which one to drink"

I know I've felt both of those. forgiveness is preferable, hands down.
You have good voice. I would love to read more of your work!

I enjoyed this quite a bit. 2001? Its been awhile.

for critique, for one with such a great vocabularly, I feel that "one's optimism" is a bit of a jumble of words, where something like good cheer or something else would suffice.
